The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) invites applications and nominations for the position of Information Security Analyst or Senior Information Security Analyst. This is a renewable, full-time, non-tenured, administrative position and reports to the Chief Information Security Officer.  The position will be physically located in either Reno or Las Vegas.  The NSHE is comprised of eight institutions: three universities, four community colleges and a research institute.  The public system of higher education in Nevada continues to experience growth with significant opportunities in serving over 105,000 students and 12,000 employees. 

Position details:  This position will be responsible for ensuring the security and confidentiality of information systems and data for the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE). The Analyst will collaborate with the NSHE’s IT teams to identify, develop, and implement security strategies and solutions to safeguard the organization’s information assets from potential threats. Based on qualifications and experience, the finalist will be classified as either Information Security Analyst or Senior Information Security Analyst.

SALARY/GRADE: Grade C    

Information Security Analyst: $68,500 – $78,500/ Senior Information Security Analyst: $90,000 – 106,000  (both commensurate with education, experience, and training). Benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, life, and retirement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Information Security Analyst: Associates degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum of 4 years of progression in information technology.  A minimum of 2 years of work directly related to IT security will be considered in lieu of the 4 years of progression in information technology. Prior IT experience in higher education, specifically the Nevada System of Higher Education is preferred.   

Senior Information Security Analyst: Bachelor’s degree in an IT-related field from a regionally accredited institution with 8 years of progression in information technology with a minimum of 5 years of work directly related to information security. Direct experience in the design, evaluation, implementation, configuration, administration, management and maintenance of information technology security systems, services, and appliances and tools are desired. Prior IT experience in higher education, specifically the Nevada System of Higher Education is preferred.  Supervisory skills desired.

The Senior Information Security Analyst will have an in-depth knowledge of vulnerability scanners such as Tenable/Nessus, Security and Information Event Management (SIEM) Systems such as Splunk, Microsoft Defender, and threat intelligence products such as Anomali.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:  Successful candidates must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities.  It is recommended that applicants for this position address each of the following items in the resume or cover letter:

  • Knowledge or basic understanding of:
    • Information security infrastructure methodologies, technologies, and tools.
    • Various operating systems, network connectivity and protocols, “cloud” services and architecture.
    • General web and application knowledge.
    • Trends and developments in information security, as well as current and pending threats.  
    • Information security frameworks, such as the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, and federal and state information security and data privacy laws.
    • Basic government regulations and industry standards developed to protect and secure data and information of students, faculty, and staff.
    • Assist in maintaining an effective threat and vulnerability mitigation program.
    • Network infrastructure and security concepts.
  • Must have working experience in:
    • Analyzing, trending, and reporting upon data being presented from the various security platforms.
    • Evaluating new threats to determine the potential impact and level of risk to the Nevada System of Higher Education.  
    • Collaborating with internal staff, institutional partners, and contracted vendors.  
    • Working within established policies and procedures.  
  • Skills:
    • Written and verbal communication skills to be able to write and deliver reports, recommendations, and proposals to a variety of audiences.
    • Strong analytical skills to be able to synthesize complex and diverse information and present it in an easy-to-understand format.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The duties of this position will include, but not be limited to, the following areas of responsibility:

  • Routinely collect, review, and analyze information and reports from various sources such as Splunk, Nessus/Tenable, Anomali, M365 Defender, etc.
  • Write reports and publications that will benefit all NSHE institutions while fostering good communications with other NSHE institutions.
  • Assist with vulnerability assessments of NSHE systems and networks and prioritize remediation efforts.
  • Represent the Information Security Department as a project resource for internal and NSHE-wide projects. Projects may also include work with external entities such as external auditors, law enforcement, and the State Office of Cyber Defense Coordination.
  • Assist with the investigation of reported incidents.  

In addition to the above, the Senior Information Security Analyst will:

  • Work with staff, to deliver on-going metrics to identify key successes and problem areas related to vulnerability and threat management.
  • Identify features, solutions, products, and services to expand NSHE’s current security infrastructure and capabilities.
  • Develop and provide recommendations to extend the security infrastructure to NSHE institutions, in a “shared services” model.

The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) invites applications and nominations for the position of Senior Business Analyst, Financial.  This is a renewable, full-time, non-tenured, administrative position and reports to the Assistant Director of Workday. The position may be located in Reno or Las Vegas.

The NSHE is comprised of eight institutions: three universities, four community colleges, and a research institute.  The public system of higher education in Nevada continues to experience rapid growth, with significant challenges and opportunities in serving over 105,000 students and 15,000 employees.

The incumbent reports to the Assistant Director of Workday and assists NSHE stakeholders in identifying and documenting their business processes and suggests refinements and improvements to those processes.  The Senior Business Analyst also provides user support in complex problem analysis and resolution; designs and develops reports and data extracts that support business processes; develops technical specifications that support application customizations and assists in quality assurance testing.  The position serves as a bridge between the campus functional, internal and external project team members, and the SCS technical areas, and so he/she should have an excellent higher education functional knowledge as well as a technical background.

STARTING SALARY: Grade C (starting salary: $80,000.00 – $100,000.00 to commensurate with education, experience, and training). Benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, life, and retirement. 

APPROXIMATE STARTING DATE: November 1, 2023.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems or a related field from an accredited institution is required with four (4) years directly applicable experience ** or Master’s Degree with 2 years directly applicable experience.  Alternatively, 8 or more years directly related experience.

** Four (4) years directly applicable experience; 2 years functional experience in the areas of Finance, HCM, or Payroll/Time Tracking or 2 years Workday Business Analyst experience.  Additional 2 years Workday business analyst experience in the areas of Finance, HCM, or Payroll/Time Tracking.

  • As both the functional expert and the developer of technical specifications, the Senior Business Analyst is an integral component in the creation of the technical solutions for identified client business needs.
  • The Senior Business Analyst assists the client in developing effective testing scripts and ensures that applications are well tested.
  • As a key player in IT projects, the Senior Business Analyst, led by a senior IT team member, will participate on and provide input to IT projects.
  • The Senior Business Analyst is the liaison between the campus functional user and the SCS technical staff. They turn business requirements into technical specifications so that other IT staff members can use these technical specifications to modify existing or develop new application functions.
  • Limited travel with overnight stays may be required in support of activities related to the position.
  • As a key holder of both business process and application knowledge, it falls to the Senior Business Analyst to effectively communicate user needs to the IT community, to align stakeholder expectations with resource availability and application capabilities, and to keep all involved parties informed and coordinated on project progression.  The Senior Business Analyst also will be a Project Lead for IAS on many IT projects that have a direct impact on the business applications SCS supports;

NSHE maintains a wide area network and multiple data centers along with a wide variety of systems and applications to provide services to all of its institutions.  The Business Analyst is an integral part of the overall NSHE Workday team.  The Business Analyst position supports the Workday enterprise information system’s ongoing maintenance and continuous improvement of related business processes, configuration, and related activities across the NSHE institutions.  This position provides a bridge between the campus functional and the SCS technical areas.

The Administrative Coordinator supports the Senior Executive Assistant and the department. This position involves performing various administrative duties, acting as scribe during meetings, assisting in the review and analysis of electronic records, assisting in projects, and undertaking other assigned tasks.
