The Project Management Office (PMO) maintains a suite of processes, methods, and tools to provide a foundation of best practices for managing projects from intake to delivery. The PMO provides project management services for SCS projects and also provides support services for training & mentoring for project managers. The PMO is committed to following the PMI Global Standards Methodology.
Project Management Methodology (PMM)
All projects following the SCS PMM (Project Management Methodology) progress through the following lifecycle phases:
In Project Initiation, an individual proposes a project to develop a product or service. The project request proceeds through an approval process and once approved, a project manager is assigned to work with the requestor and the project sponsor to develop a Project Charter.
Project Planning builds upon the Project Charter. The project manager and technical leads drill into more detail to further define the project scope, schedule, cost, and quality standards. Additional plans are developed for project communications, risk management, procurement, cost management, and change management. At the conclusion of Project Planning, a detailed Project Plan is in place, the project team is formed, and a kick-off meeting is held.
During Project Execution & Control, the project team executes the project schedule as defined by the Project Plan and the product or service is developed. The project manager uses the processes and plans prepared during Project Planning to manage, monitor, and control the project. At the conclusion of Project Execution & Control, scope is verified and the product or service is launched.
Project Closure assesses the outcome of the project, solicits feedback, documents lessons learned, and archives project information.
